David Prisciak is a University of Regina student pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Journalism. He was born and raised in Saskatchewan. He got into journalism because it offered a chance to constantly learn more about the world and have a chance to document history as it happens in real time. He enjoys reading non fiction literature, watching classic movies and checking them off of his list, and gaming online with his friends.

Always Watching Fact Checker

Karlie McGeough (her friends call her “Uncle Karl”) is a journalism student at the University of Regina. She grew up in Regina but spent a good chunk of time in Phoenix, Arizona. Karlie’s favourite thing about journalism is that there is a story waiting to be discovered everywhere you go and as a journalist she gets to tell those stories. After graduation Karlie is hoping to work in broadcast television, and her long term goal is to be a sports reporter at TSN. In her spare time Karlie loves to watch Blue Jays games with her family and dream about all the vacations she can’t afford to go on.

Allan Ly is a journalism student at the University of Regina. He is proudly from Regina, Saskatchewan — “Go Roughriders!” What he likes most about journalism is how each day brings something new — one day, you are interviewing a Popeye’s employee, and the next day you are interviewing a professional football player! In the future, Allan hopes to work in sports journalism. His favourite pastime is watching sports, and Allan’s absolute favourites are basketball and football.

Cyber Shadows Field Producer and Data Journalist.

Jennifer Francis is a journalist at the University of Regina, School of Journalism and CBC Saskatchewan. She was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. What Jenn likes most about journalism is telling important stories through an Indigenous perspective and contributing to the diversity of media in Canada. She isn’t sure yet what her future in journalism looks like, but would like to be a reporter who focuses on politics, entertainment or Indigenous issues and/or a radio host. Jenn’s favourite pastime is watching a variety of streamers on the streaming platform Twitch and keeping up with current events around the world.

Cyber Shadows Reporter and Lead Writer.

Mattea Columpsi was born and raised on the prairies of Regina, Saskatchewan. For her, journalism is about the craft of listening, story-telling and being able to express herself artistically through various mediums. Mattea hopes to take on projects all around the globe that inspire change and creativity in each other.

Cyber Shadows Editor and Fact Checker.

Rose Mansbridge-Goldie was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and spent the majority of her years growing up in the small town of Silton, Saskatchewan (look it up if you’re curious). For Rose, journalism is about communicating the human condition.

Cyber Shadows Videographer and Page Designer.

Kayla Guerrette is a journalism student at the University of Regina. She grew up in Sudbury, Ontario. She loves meeting new people and sharing their stories. When she’s not out being a journalist you can find her on the hiking trails, drinking far too much coffee and attempting to curl her hair with a straightener (she has yet to be successful).

Behind the Scenes

Doing the project in the middle of a pandemic definitely had its challenges. A lot of our time was spent on Zoom with our groups. We did everything from research meetings, to conducting interviews with experts, to writing scripts and planning out the visual elements for the show all over Zoom. This project has definitely forced us to become better communicators and more creative in finding ways to overcome obstacles.
